Completing the Bioindustrial Pipeline: A Multidisciplinary Workforce Development Institute for Biological and Bioprocess Engineering for the Appalachian Highlands

Bio Industrial Manufacturing
Format: Hybrid
Audience: Undergraduate
Partners: East Tennessee State University

This project is establishing a comprehensive career pathway to equip traditional and non-traditional high school and college students with the skills necessary to succeed in the bioindustrial manufacturing industry. Educators will design a set of standalone bioprocess engineering, bioindustrial automation, and synthetic biology curriculum modules to meet immediate workforce needs. Students will receive hands-on training related to downstream bioproduct separation, physical biosecurity, and the intersection of bioengineering and business.

By creating a multidisciplinary workforce development program for bioprocess engineering in the Appalachian Highlands region, this program will result in the creation of a versatile and adaptable workforce, equipped with bioindustrial skills vital to driving the growth of the bioeconomy.
