Manufacturing USA brings together industry, academia and state and federal partners within a network of advanced manufacturing institutes to increase U.S. manufacturing competitiveness and promote a robust and sustainable national manufacturing R&D infrastructure.
Institutes are public-private partnerships that advance American manufacturing innovation. By creating the opportunities needed to allow U.S. industry, academia, and government partners to work together on projects in a specific advanced manufacturing technology area, they enable solutions for industry-relevant manufacturing problems in research and development, technology transition, workforce training and education.
Institutes reach across the entire manufacturing industry, and serve members from four critical sectors.
Industry
Manufacturing USA’s mission revolves around commercial companies, from large multinational conglomerates to small local businesses. Look to the institutes for streamlined manufacturing processes, leveraged resources, partnerships, new capabilities and material solutions, workforce training or just a low-risk R&D environment.
Academia
The United States' academic institutions boast a proud history of providing impactful skilled workers and leading research and technology. As we accelerate the pace of delivery from lab to marketplace -- and train our next-generation manufacturing workforce – academic partners forge the way.
Nonprofit
Nonprofit organizations are critical to powering U.S. advanced manufacturing capabilities. As the voice for various technologies and sectors, our nonprofit members stimulate collaboration across communities and help bridge the gap between research and the market.
Government
Born as a federal program, Manufacturing USA coordinates across multiple federal agencies and organizations. Meet our federal partners at Manufacturing.gov. The institutes also work with state and local governments to establish programs and initiatives that directly benefit their communities.
Manufacturing USA reports performance and coordinates alignment across the institutes in accordance with the program’s strategic plan. Read more about the program or the U.S. Department of Defense Engagement Guides.
