Through this project, a team of experts at the Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center at North Carolina State University created a unique course that provides a comprehensive introduction to biomanufacturing and its role in the industrial biotechnology landscape. The course covers:
Core competencies in molecular biotechnology, focusing on recombinant gene cloning and its applications
Principles and processes of industrial biomanufacturing, focusing on upstream processing, downstream processing, and analytical methods for product testing.
The nexus of biotechnology and society, which focuses on science communication, responsible research and innovation, and related topics.
The self-paced, online course is ideal for working professionals or students. All course materials are aligned with best practices for accessibility, inclusivity, and include aspects of Universal Design for Learning. This project helped ensure that the current and future bioindustrial technology workforce understand the fundamentals of molecular biology and bioprocessing, be grounded in bioethical principles, and recognize the societal importance of responsible innovation.
