An Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office task team was formed to develop and recommend intellectual property policy for the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). The Guidance on Intellectual Property Rights for the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation was drafted as a set of recommended intellectual property principles, intended to guide NNMI Institutes. The guidance document was published as part of a Request for Information on November 13, 2013 and public comments were received through December 13, 2013. Additional input on the set of recommended IP principles for the NNMI was received from the President’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership 2.0 and by reviewing lessons learned from the first pilot NNMI Institute, America Makes. Further, efforts were made to learn from prior public-private partnerships in advanced manufacturing, including SEMATECH.
