Two of the Manufacturing USA Institutes are leading the charge in developing a new generation of Advanced Manufacturing professionals. PowerAmerica and Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow (LIFT) have each worked with strategic partners to launch new training programs.
Printed Circuit Board Design
PowerAmerica and team member EPTAC Corporation is offering training to help a new generation enter manufacturing. The IPC Designer Certification, offered to students and faculty of North Carolina State University, professional development program provides objective evaluation of core competencies in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, based upon industry standards rather than specifications of just one company. This certification includes the CID (Certified Interconnect Designer-Basic) and CID+ (Advanced) curriculum providing valuable professional credentials recognized throughout the electronics industry. IPC is the Association Connecting Electronics Industries, a trade association whose aim is to standardize the assembly and production requirements of electronic equipment and assemblies. The certification supports professional development for careers in electronics by providing instruction framed by industry best practices.

Materials Camp
In Detroit, Michigan, Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow (LIFT) partnered with the American Society for Metals to host week-long “Materials Camp” programs designed to enrich, stimulate and enhance the technical competence and teaching skills of middle and high school science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers. Beginning in 2015 and expanding in 2016, the program has now reached teachers in 22 states. Participants learn to use every-day materials to provide hands-on and meaningful learning experiences that are proven to engage and inspire students in science, engineering, technology and mathematics. By engaging and inspiring teachers, the program is reaching students with the message that manufacturing careers are innovative and creative.
